About
Real Squirrels, No Photoshop
It started out during the Covid lockdown as a humble attempt to photograph a squirrel drinking out of a coffee mug. We set up the mug with a nut in it on our back porch, framed the shot behind the glass door and waited. And waited....
The squirrels would come up to take the food a couple times a day, but the trick was actually being present and next to the camera when they did. Then one day it all came together, we got the shot and immediately started looking around for more props.
And so it went....
The squirrels are real
All of the squirrels are wild and roam freely in our back yard. They are not pets, we haven't named them. We set up the props and camera gear on our back porch and we wait. Eventually one of the squirrels (there's about 3 or 4 regulars) will wander on the set and we quietly take a picture. They are paid in pecans.
No Photoshop
We only use digital tools for normal touch up and color correction. Other than that, the scene you see is real, not posed or cut and paste. The shots are interesting because of the real interactions. We don't see the point otherwise.
